New Delhi, Sept 7: Coal supplies to power plants have improved, with daily rake loading rising to 444 rakes on September 6, 2026, from 370 rakes on September 3.
The 74-rake increase represents an improvement of around 20 per cent over four days, according to the Ministry of Coal.
The steady rise comes as Coal India (CIL) and its subsidiaries, Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) and captive mine operators step up efforts to strengthen coal supplies to the power sector.
Daily rake loading to the power sector increased consistently over the four-day period, rising from 370 rakes on 3 September 2026 to 387 rakes on 4 September, an increase of 17 rakes.
Loading rose further to 413 rakes on 5 September, up 26 rakes from the previous day, before reaching 444 rakes on 6 September, marking a day-on-day increase of 31 rakes.
The sharpest daily increase during the period came on 6 September, when loading rose by 31 rakes compared with the previous day.
Most coal-producing companies recorded higher rake loading on 6 September compared with the previous day.
Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL) posted the largest single-day increase, with loading rising by 12 rakes to 111 rakes a day. Captive block loading increased by six rakes to 72, while Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) added eight rakes to reach 25 rakes a day.
Northern Coalfields (NCL) increased loading by three rakes to 35, while Private Washery (PW) and Goodsheds also added three rakes to reach 42 rakes a day.
Central Coalfields (CCL) and South Eastern Coalfields (SECL) recorded increases of two and one rakes respectively, taking their loading to 36 and 46 rakes a day.
Eastern Coalfields (ECL) and Western Coalfields (WCL), meanwhile, maintained their previous day’s loading levels at 23 and 29 rakes a day respectively.
Overall, CIL siding loading rose to 305 rakes a day on 6 September, an increase of 26 rakes from the previous day.
The Ministry of Coal said critical thermal power plants, defined as those with coal stocks below 25 per cent of their normative requirement, are being closely monitored.
Corrective coal supply measures are already being implemented to ease the position at these plants.
The Ministry and CIL said they remain committed to sustaining the improvement in rake loading and meeting the coal requirements of the power sector. (BVI)
