New Delhi, May 24: The newly inaugurated 594-km Ganga Expressway is expected to significantly improve freight movement across Uttar Pradesh while generating annual logistics savings of up to ₹30,000 crore. The massive infrastructure project is being seen as a game-changer for industrial growth, warehousing, and transportation connectivity in the state.
The six-lane expressway, which can later be expanded to eight lanes, connects Meerut to Prayagraj through 12 districts and is designed to strengthen economic ties between western and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
According to government estimates, the expressway has reduced travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from nearly 10-12 hours to around 5-8 hours. The corridor is expected to streamline the transportation of agricultural produce, textiles, electronics, FMCG goods, and pharmaceuticals across the state.
Officials believe the improved connectivity will reduce fuel consumption, improve delivery efficiency, and significantly lower transportation costs for businesses operating in Uttar Pradesh.
The Uttar Pradesh government has stated that the expressway is not just a road project but a major industrial and logistics corridor. Around 987 investment proposals worth nearly ₹46,660 crore have reportedly been received for projects along the expressway route.
Authorities are also planning 12 industrial nodes across more than 6,500 acres to support manufacturing, warehousing, food processing, textiles, and e-commerce sectors.
Cities such as Prayagraj, Hardoi, and Shahjahanpur are expected to emerge as important logistics and distribution hubs due to improved road connectivity and lower land costs.
Logistics companies and industry experts have welcomed the expressway, saying it will improve supply chain predictability and strengthen cargo movement across northern India.
The corridor is expected to benefit sectors including e-commerce, agri-business, pharmaceuticals, and retail by ensuring faster and more reliable transportation. Industry leaders also believe that Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in Uttar Pradesh will witness rapid warehousing and industrial expansion in the coming years.
The Ganga Expressway will also integrate with several major expressways and transport corridors, including the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
Future expansion plans include extending the corridor towards Haridwar and improving regional connectivity through the proposed Farrukhabad Link Expressway.
The Uttar Pradesh government believes the expressway could contribute more than ₹1 lakh crore to the state economy in the long term. The project is also expected to play an important role in supporting the state’s ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy through improved infrastructure, industrial investment, and employment generation.
