New Delhi, Apr 20: One more ship carrying crude oil is headed towards India and is expected to reach Mumbai two days from now.
The Indian-flagged crude tanker ‘Deshkarima’ safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz on April 18, said Mandeep Singh Randhawa, Director in the Ministry of Shipping.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the vessel is carrying 97,422 metric tonnes of crude oil and has 31 Indian seafarers on board.
He also referred to the incident of firing on two Indian ships by the Iranian Navy in the Strait of Hormuz two days back and said no damage had been caused.
“In the past 48 hours, two Indian vessels Sanmar Herald and bulk carrier Jagannath reported a firing incident while transiting the Strait and returned to a safe location,” Randhawa said.
No injuries have been reported, he added.
The official said the Shipping Ministry is in continuous contact with the crew and vessel owners and is closely monitoring the situation.
He also informed that the control room of the Directorate General of Shipping has handled 6,918 calls and over 14,605 emails since activation, including 25 calls and 135 emails in the past 24 hours.
Over 2,563 Indian seafarers have been safely repatriated so far, including 25 from various locations in the last 24 hours.
Port operations across India remain normal with no congestion.
The Government continues to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions and maritime stakeholders to ensure the safety of seafarers and uninterrupted maritime operations. (BVI)
