Faster Links to Mumbai: New Superfast Service Starts June; Vande Bharat Sleeper Coming Soon

Bengaluru, May 08: Traveling between Bengaluru and Mumbai is about to get a major speed boost. For years, commuters have been stuck between lengthy train rides or expensive flights, but a new solution is just weeks away. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that a long-awaited superfast train Vande Bharat Sleeper Train service is set to launch by late June.

A High-Speed Corridor for Karnataka’s Heartland

This isn’t just about the end destinations; the new service is designed to be a lifeline for central and northern Karnataka. The superfast route is slated to cut through major urban hubs including Tumakuru, Davanagere, Haveri, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Belagavi. By connecting these key districts, the railway aims to provide a much-needed alternative for students, business travelers, and tourists who currently lack a seamless, rapid land connection between the two metropolitan giants.

The Sleeper Revolution: Vande Bharat’s Next Phase

The excitement doesn’t stop with a standard superfast train. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has reportedly given the green light to eventually upgrade this service into a Vande Bharat Sleeper train. Unlike the current “chair car” versions of Vande Bharat, the sleeper variant is designed for long-distance, overnight comfort. This upgrade would bring world-class amenities and faster transit speeds, potentially turning the overnight journey to Mumbai into a luxury experience rather than a travel chore.

Modernizing the Hubballi Gateway

Beyond the trains themselves, the government is looking at the ground-level experience. Discussions are officially underway for a total redevelopment of the Hubballi Railway Station. As one of the state’s most critical commercial junctions, the station is earmarked for a massive overhaul featuring modernized waiting areas and infrastructure capable of handling the next generation of high-traffic rail travel.

New Lines on the Horizon

The expansion plans also look toward the future of regional connectivity. Minister Joshi has pushed for a fresh survey of the Lokapur-Savadatti-Dharwad line. This project is seen as a key driver for economic activity in northern Karnataka, promising to open up remote areas to the broader rail network. With the Railway Ministry responding positively, the blueprint for a more connected Karnataka is rapidly taking shape.
