Bank of Baroda: Compromise of an employee’s email led to ‘unauthorised access to certain data’

New Delhi, July 27: Bank of Baroda (BOB) today said “compromise” of the email account of one of its employees has resulted in “unauthorised access to certain data” but did not give details.

The BOB issued this statement after a hacker claimed to have leaked around 1TB of data allegedly linked to the bank, including customer records and internal documents.

The bank said the incident was identified promptly and immediate containment measures were put in place.

“The incident involved compromise of an employee’s email account, resulting in unauthorised access to certain data. The matter was promptly identified, and immediate containment measures were implemented. The Bank’s core banking systems were not accessed and continue to remain secure,” the bank said in the statement.

“The Bank has initiated a comprehensive forensic investigation to thoroughly examine the matter and is working closely with the relevant authorities in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements,” the statement added.

However, the bank has not revealed how the email account was compromised or what specific data was accessed.

Earlier, the hacker claimed that the leaked files include customer records, banking information, internal documents, audit reports and compliance records.

The bank has not confirmed those claims or disclosed whether any customer data was compromised. (BVI)
