MUMBAI: Aiming at ensuring uninterrupted power supply to Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor, 14 traction substations (TSS) are being introduced along the alignment.
TSS are a key component of the high-speed rail power supply network. They receive electrical power from the grid, transform it to the required voltage levels and supply it to the traction power system that energises the trains.
The 508 km corridor will be supported by 14 Traction Substations strategically located along the alignment.
Five are located in Maharashtra at Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar and Thane Depot, while nine are located in Gujarat at Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Mahemdavad, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati Depot.
The first traction substation is nearing completion at Bilimora in Navsari district, Gujarat. Spread over approximately 18,000 square metres, the power transmission infrastructure is taking shape, with equipment installation, testing and commissioning activities progressing at the substation.
The installation works in the Control Panel, Changeover Switch, Transformer and Circuit Breaker buildings have been completed. All gantry towers and beam installation works has also been completed.
The TSS in Gujarat will receive power from the Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) 220 kV Ambetha Grid Substation.
The power will then be supplied to the Overhead Equipment (OHE) along the viaduct through the advanced 2 × 25 kV traction power supply system adopted for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor.
The traction power supply network will be under continuous real-time monitoring from a centralised control centre. (BVI)
