Tim Cook Sees Big Future in India: Why Apple Calls It a “Huge Opportunity”

New Delhi, May 01: India is becoming one of the most important growth markets for global technology companies, and Apple CEO Tim Cook has now openly described the country as a “huge opportunity.” His remarks highlight how Apple views India not just as a fast-growing market today, but as a long-term engine of global expansion.

India’s Rising Importance for Apple

Speaking during Apple’s latest earnings call, Tim Cook pointed out that India is already the second-largest smartphone market in the world and the third-largest for PCs. Despite Apple currently holding a modest share in the country, the company sees strong potential for future growth, especially as more consumers enter the middle-income group and upgrade to premium devices.

He also noted that a large number of Apple customers in India are first-time buyers, which makes the market especially valuable for long-term brand expansion. According to Cook, this combination of scale and new demand makes India one of the most promising regions globally for Apple.

Strong Sales Growth Across Products

Apple has already started seeing results from this focus. The company reported double-digit growth in India across multiple product categories, including iPhones, MacBooks, and iPads. This growth is part of a broader global performance where Apple’s revenue rose significantly in both developed and emerging markets.

Products like Mac computers have seen increased demand in India alongside countries such as Indonesia, while iPads have also performed strongly due to rising adoption in education and professional use.

Expanding Retail Presence in India

To strengthen its position, Apple has been rapidly expanding its physical retail presence across the country. The company now operates stores in major cities including New Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, Noida, and multiple locations in Mumbai, including its recent expansion in Borivali.

This retail push is aimed at improving customer access, strengthening brand experience, and tapping into India’s growing appetite for premium technology products.

Leadership Changes at Apple

Alongside its expansion plans, Apple has also announced a major leadership transition. Tim Cook is set to move into the role of executive chairman of the board, while senior hardware executive John Ternus will take over as CEO from September 2026. This change marks a new phase in Apple’s leadership while maintaining continuity in its strategic direction.

Apple’s growing focus on India reflects a broader shift in global tech strategy, where emerging markets are becoming central to future growth. With rising incomes, expanding digital adoption, and increasing demand for premium devices, India is positioning itself as a key pillar in Apple’s long-term global roadmap.
