New Delhi, Aug 7: State Bank of India (SBI) has reported a 10.2 per cent year-on-year rise in standalone net profit to Rs 21,121 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.
Net interest income (NII), the difference between interest earned and interest paid, increased 12.1 per cent to Rs 46,992 crore from Rs 41,907 crore a year earlier, supported by healthy credit growth.
Operating profit rose 9.8 per cent to Rs 33,529 crore, while the bank continued to improve its asset quality.
Gross non-performing assets (GNPA) declined to 1.74 per cent from 1.83 per cent in the year-ago quarter, while net NPA improved to 0.39 per cent from 0.47 per cent.
SBI’s domestic net interest margin (NIM) stood at 3.00 per cent, while the overall NIM was 2.86 per cent, reflecting the impact of higher deposit costs across the banking sector.
Despite the moderation in margins, the lender maintained healthy profitability, with return on assets (RoA) at 1.11 per cent and return on equity (RoE) at 17.87 per cent.
The June-quarter performance comes as banks navigate a challenging operating environment marked by rising deposit costs, intense competition for liabilities and a stable policy rate. (BVI)
