Eight services sub-sectors saw double-digit growth in June, Air Transport contracted
New Delhi: Eight of the 19 services sub-sectors tracked by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) recorded double-digit growth in June 2026, with Real Estate registering the strongest performance, according to the latest Index of Services Production (ISP).
The trial index showed that all categories except air transport registered positive year-on-year growth during the month.
Air transport was the only sub-sector to record a contraction, declining 6 per cent in June.
The ISP covers 19 services sub-sectors and uses 2024-25 as its base year.
Real estate recorded the strongest growth at 24.7 per cent in June, followed by retail trade at 18 per cent and wholesale trade at 15.1 per cent.
Administrative and support services grew 14.4 per cent, while information technology and computer-related services recorded 13.5 per cent growth.
The June release marks the third publication of the ISP on a trial basis. MoSPI had released the maiden trial series for April 2026 on 14 July, with the monthly index currently being published on an experimental basis.
The ministry said the trial series would allow it to assess data quality and resilience while gathering feedback from stakeholders and users. The exercise is also intended to help refine the index before its eventual use as a regular statistical indicator.
MoSPI noted that the indices for the railways, banking and insurance sub-sectors are based on provisional monthly data. These indices will undergo revision on an annual basis, the ministry said. (BVI)
