New Delhi, June 11: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has approved two infrastructure projects aimed at improving public transport accessibility and strengthening renewable energy integration in the capital.

The two projects are transfer of land for the installation of a lift at Rohini West Metro Station and  the allocation of land for a 66 KV/11 KV solar pooling substation in southwest Delhi’s Issapur village.

The Metro project will enable the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to install a lift at Rohini West Metro Station, improving access for commuters, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and visitors to the nearby BSA Hospital.

The facility is expected to enhance convenience for thousands of passengers using the station each day.

In a separate decision, around nine bighas of land have been allocated for the construction of a solar pooling substation that will support the integration of renewable energy into Delhi’s power network.

The project comes amid growing demand for solar power connections in the agricultural areas of Issapur and Dhansa.

According to official assessments, existing electricity infrastructure is facing challenges in accommodating the increasing volume of power generated from solar installations in the region.

The proposed substation will help manage and distribute solar power more efficiently, easing pressure on the local grid while supporting Delhi’s clean energy objectives.

The project is expected to play an important role in strengthening transmission infrastructure required for greater renewable energy adoption.

As solar generation capacity expands, investments in grid infrastructure are considered critical for ensuring reliable power evacuation and distribution.

The approvals reflect Delhi’s broader efforts to combine sustainable energy development with urban infrastructure improvements, while advancing goals related to accessibility, energy security and cleaner sources of power. (BVI)
