New Delhi, Aug 13: The sales of automobiles recorded substantial rise in July, with passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers all registering double-digit year-on-year growth, according to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) today.
Domestic passenger vehicle dispatches from manufacturers to dealers rose 34.3 per cent to 4,57,810 units in July 2026, compared with 3,40,772 units in the same month last year.
Passenger vehicles recorded the highest percentage growth among the three segments covered by SIAM.
Two-wheeler sales increased 22.6 per cent year-on-year to 19,23,483 units in July from 15,69,120 units a year earlier.
Motorcycles accounted for the largest share of sales at 10,74,796 units, up 20.7 per cent from 8,90,107 units in July 2025.
Scooter sales grew at a faster pace, rising 23.7 per cent to 7,98,190 units from 6,45,022 units a year earlier.
Moped sales recorded the sharpest percentage increase within the segment, climbing 48.6 per cent to 50,497 units from 33,991 units.
The two-wheeler segment also recorded strong production and export growth during the month.’
Total two-wheeler production stood at 27,18,514 units in July, compared with 21,89,566 units a year earlier.
Exports increased to 5,54,258 units from 4,33,873 units.
Three-wheeler dispatches to dealers increased 33.4 per cent to 92,560 units in July from 69,403 units in the year-ago period. Passenger carriers accounted for the bulk of sales at 77,994 units, registering 32.9 per cent growth.
Goods carriers also recorded an increase of 40.3 per cent to 12,896 units. Electric rickshaw sales rose 7.5 per cent to 1,132 units, while electric cart sales increased 16.2 per cent to 538 units.
Three-wheeler production stood at 1,45,913 units during July, compared with 1,12,241 units in July 2025. Exports also remained significant, with 52,309 three-wheelers shipped during the month.
Production, Exports Gain Momentum
Across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers and quadricycles, total production stood at 33,70,958 units in July, up 24.8 per cent from 27,02,121 units in July 2025.
Automobile exports across these categories rose 25.1 per cent year-on-year to 6,77,122 units from 5,41,282 units a year earlier, indicating stronger overseas shipments alongside the rise in domestic volumes.
Retail sales also strengthened during the month. Data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations showed total vehicle retail sales rising 25.9 per cent year-on-year in July.
Electric vehicle retail sales reached a record 3,27,901 units, up 66 per cent. (BVI)
