New Delhi, June 10: Government-owned Bharat Sanchar Nagar Limited (BSNL) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur today joined hands with an aim of deploying next-generation telecom technologies, including Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) broadcasting, indigenous 4G solutions, and digital infrastructure initiatives.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed here under which technical expertise and research capabilities developed at IIT Kanpur would be transfered into BSNL’s operational network.
This is expected to facilitate the faster adoption of advanced telecom innovations while strengthening India’s indigenous technology ecosystem.
A primary goal of the partnership is to establish a framework for the seamless exchange of technological knowledge between researchers and telecom engineers.
The collaboration will focus on areas such as D2M broadcasting, 4G network deployment, spectrum efficiency, advanced broadcasting technologies and future network architectures.
The agreement is also intended to deepen cooperation in Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) broadcasting, a technology that enables multimedia content to be delivered directly to mobile devices without relying entirely on conventional cellular data networks.
As part of the partnership, BSNL is expected to draw upon IIT Kanpur’s research expertise and insights gained from D2M trials, while the institute could benefit from access to the telecom operator’s nationwide network infrastructure and field deployment capabilities.
