New Delhi, May 12: Red Hat and Panasonic Connect have announced a global collaboration aimed at strengthening rugged edge computing capabilities for industries including defense, manufacturing and government operations.
As part of the partnership, Red Hat Device Edge will now come preloaded on Panasonic TOUGHBOOK devices, enabling real-time data processing, autonomous operations and industrial automation directly at the edge.
The collaboration is designed to support demanding operational environments where reliability, security and connectivity are critical. The integrated platform combines Panasonic’s rugged hardware with Red Hat’s enterprise-grade open-source edge technologies.
Red Hat Device Edge includes an enterprise-supported version of MicroShift, derived from Red Hat OpenShift, along with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform.

The solution targets use cases such as mobile command operations, tactical communications, drone control, industrial automation, real-time intelligence gathering and secure data processing.
Kelly Switt said the partnership helps transform rugged devices into intelligent, self-sufficient edge computing nodes capable of operating in extreme environments.
Koji Higashitani stated that the collaboration will help customers in manufacturing, defense and government sectors deploy secure edge computing systems with improved uptime and operational flexibility.
Red Hat Device Edge on Panasonic TOUGHBOOK devices is now generally available globally.
The announcement was made alongside updates at the Red Hat Summit 2026, where the company is showcasing developments in enterprise AI, hybrid cloud and edge computing technologies.
