Blended hospitality services launched at Guwahati Railway Station

New Delhi, Feb 10 (BVI): An important step has been taken in the Northeast towards improved rail connectivity and modern travel facilities with the inauguration of blended hospitality services at Guwahati Railway Station and the flagging off of a new train between Sairang and Silchar.
These two initiatives strengthen rail infrastructure, enhance passenger convenience and support balanced regional development across Assam and Mizoram.
The Sairang – Silchar passenger train will directly connect Mizoram’s capital with Assam’s Barak Valley, improving regional integration and providing students, daily commuters and small traders who regularly travel between the two states.
The service offers a safer, more reliable and affordable mode of transport in a region where road travel can be time-consuming and challenging due to hilly terrain and weather conditions.
Improved rail connectivity also strengthens people-to-people contact and brings different parts of the Northeast closer together.
Beyond daily travel needs, the new train service is expected to support economic activity. Better rail access will make it easier to transport local products, agricultural goods, and handicrafts from Mizoram to markets in Assam and beyond.
Tourism is also likely to benefit, as smoother connectivity encourages more visitors to explore the scenic and cultural richness of the region.
Furthermore, blended hospitality services at Guwahati Railway Station mark a significant upgrade in passenger amenities.
Modern hospitality facilities at Guwahati Railway station, including sleeping pods, a modern air-conditioned lounge and multi-cuisine restaurants will enhance passenger comfort and provide a refined, hygienic, and customer-friendly travel experience.
These facilities ensure travellers have access to safe, convenient and restful environments, improving overall station usability.
The flagging off of the Sairang-Silchar passenger train along with the introduction of modern passenger facilities at Guwahati Railway Station reflects a broader effort to modernize rail travel in the Northeast.
In recent years, the region’s Railway network has undergone rapid transformation, with long-pending projects becoming reality and state capitals as well as remote areas steadily connecting to the national rail system.
The commissioning of the 51-kilometre Bairabi–Sairang broad-gauge line last year brought Mizoram’s capital onto India’s Railway map for the first time, marking a historic milestone.
The extension of passenger services up to Silchar further strengthens this connectivity, improving mobility for people, enhancing regional integration, and supporting sustained socio-economic growth across the Northeast. (BVI)
