New Delhi, Dec 23 (BVI) With effect from December 26, train passengers will have to pay more for travel in certain segments as the Railways is going to introduce a new fare structure.
Under the new ticket pricing structure, passengers will pay 1 paisa per km extra on journeys beyond 215 km in Ordinary Class, and 2 paise per km for Mail/Express trains.
For passengers travelling shorter routes than 215 km, there is no hike in ticket prices.
However, the fare rationalization does not apply to suburban (local) services and Monthly Season Tickets (MSTs) used by daily commuters.
According to the Railways, the public transporter is expected to earn an additional Rs 600 cr from the revised fare.
Meanwhile, passengers on a 500 km Non-AC journey will pay an additional Rs 10 for their journey.
Railways maintain that this fare hike is applicable only on the base passenger price.
Other factors like reservation charges, superfast surcharges, GST, or any other fees which are applicable won’t be changed. (BVI)
