Redevelopment of Shamli Railway Station nears completion

New Delhi, Aug 25 (BVI) : Envisaging a new era for railway infrastructure, Indian Railways is undertaking a massive exercise for redevelopment of stations under Amrit Bharat scheme across the country.

One of them is Shamli railway station in Delhi Division to provide a better travel experience for passengers.

The station was considered for redevelopment due to the  congestion in Circulating Areas, Limited Passenger Amenities, Lack of Accessibility Features, Lighting and Safety and outdated Infrastructure.

Shamli station has a daily footfall of 6,500 passengers per day, mostly daily passengers.

The project aims to elevate the travel experience for passengers by providing modern amenities, aesthetically pleasing designs, and efficient operations.

The station is undergoing  a remarkable transformation, with a budget of Rs 25 crore to upgrade its facilities, making it a modern, customer-friendly transportation hub.

The redevelopment  efforts are focused on Passenger Comfort and Accessibility with Improved entry/exit points, waiting areas (AC & Non-AC), clean toilets, two lifts and Divyangjan-friendly facilities. Local Economic Growth through ‘One Station One Product’ kiosks.

Sustainable and Environmentally Conscious Development for which the building is designed for adequate daylight to reduce heat gain and improve energy efficiency of the station building by incorporating low-energy LED illumination.

Biodiversity is maintained by retaining existing treescapes and planting of native species in the landscape to promote local biodiversity and incorporating green patches within the premises.

Divyangjan facilities are being provided like Information System accessibility by signages and announcement system,  Station accessibility through entrance ramp, reserved parking, low-height ticket counters.

The redevelopment also ensures Divyangjan-friendly washrooms, help booths near exits, providing Platform Accessibility by Guiding tactile path, accessible washrooms, water booths with low height and lifts.

The work of Shamli Railway Station Main Building is almost nearing completion as only minor finishing work is in progress. The 12 mtr wide foot over bridge is almost nearing completion as only minor finishing and lift commissioning is pending.

Platform shelter work is almost completed, only roof sheeting work is in progress at some locations. Platform surfacing work is 70 per cent completed except for some portions.

Indian Railways is actively progressing with its extensive station redevelopment program, a significant initiative aimed at transforming over 1,300 stations across the country into modern, integrated transportation hubs.

The endeavor, primarily driven by the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme announced in December 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focuses on enhancing passenger experience, improving accessibility, and fostering economic growth in and around these vital railway infrastructure sites. (BVI)
