New Delhi, Jan 29 (BVI): With the approval of Delhi Metro’s Phase V(A) corridors, the Central Secretariat Metro Station will emerge as a triple interchange facility, significantly enhancing network integration and passenger convenience across the National Capital Region.
Presently, the Central Secretariat station serves as an important interchange hub of Central Delhi serving as a junction between the Yellow and Violet lines. Thousands of office going persons who commute to the Central Delhi office areas use this vital metro station.
Now with the approval of Phase V (A), the Central Secretariat station will provide connectivity to Yellow Line, Violet line and the Magenta Line extension (Central Vista Corridor from R.K. Ashram Marg – Indraprastha).
This will provide connectivity to all the Kartavya Bhawans, thereby providing doorstep connectivity to the office goers and visitors in this area. With this connectivity, around 60,000 office goers and 2 lakh visitors will benefit on a daily basis. This will further reduce pollution and usage of fossil fuels, enhancing ease of living.
Triple interchange stations enable seamless transfers between three metro corridors at a single location, substantially reducing travel time and making cross-city journeys faster, smoother, and more convenient for commuters.
At present, there are 29 interchange metro stations in the DMRC network. After completion of Phase 4, total no of interchange stations will be 43, and with Phase 5(A), the number of interchanges will increase to 46.
Kashmere Gate, in North Delhi, has been a key junction, handling heavy daily footfall, as it connects residential areas in the North and Northwest with Central and South Delhi. Until now, it remained the only station offering three-line inter change, even as the Metro network expanded rapidly across the National Capital Region. (BVI)
