New Delhi, Aug 14 (BVI): Driven by sharp decrease in prices of food articles, primarily vegetables and mineral oils, India’s wholesale prices for the month of July 2025 fell 0.58% year-on-year, from a 0.13% decline in the previous month, according to government data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry today.
The annual rate of inflation based on the All India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) number is (-) 0.58% (provisional) for the month of July, 2025 (over July, 2024).
Negative rate of inflation in July, 2025 is primarily due to decrease in prices of food articles, mineral oils, crude petroleum & natural gas, manufacture of basic metals etc, the ministry said in a statement.
WPI Food Index (Weight 24.38%) – The Food Index consisting of ‘Food Articles’ from Primary Articles group and ‘Food Product’ from Manufactured Products group have increased from 190.2 in June, 2025 to 191.3 in July, 2025. The rate of inflation based on WPI Food Index remained negative from (-) 0.26% in June, 2025 to (-) 2.15% in July, 2025.
Prices of manufactured products saw a modest increase, rising by 2.05% year-on-year in July, up from 1.97% in June.
Fuel and power prices also experienced a decline, according to the Government data. Prices in this category fell by 2.43% year-on-year in July, showing a slight improvement from the 2.65% decline seen in June. (BVI)
