New Delhi, Apr 10: Sanjay Khanna has taken charge as the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), one of India’s largest state-run oil marketing companies.
His appointment is effective from April 9, 2026 until May 31, 2029, or until further orders, according to a decision of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Khanna was previously Director (Refineries) at BPCL and had been holding additional charge of the top position following the superannuation of former CMD G Krishnakumar in April 2025.
He is expected to provide continuity in leadership while steering the company through its next phase of growth, with an emphasis on integrating refining capabilities, improving project execution and supporting long term energy security.
Experience:
With over three decades of experience in refinery operations and technical services, Khanna brings deep domain expertise to the role.
He has led key facilities including BPCL’s Kochi and Mumbai refineries and has been closely involved in project execution and operational expansion across the company’s refining business.
A chemical engineering graduate from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Khanna also holds a postgraduate degree in finance management from the University of Mumbai.
His career at BPCL has spanned multiple leadership roles, including heading major refinery units and overseeing large scale projects.
His appointment comes at a time when BPCL is preparing for a significant investment cycle and focusing on expanding its refining and petrochemical capacities.
The company is also working towards strengthening operational efficiency and aligning with evolving energy transition goals. (BVI)
