July-Dec period saw 1698 stone-pelting cases, Railways warns of strict action

New Delhi, Jan 23 (BVI) With nearly 1700 incidents of stone-pelting on trains being recorded between July and December last year, the Railways has warned that anybody indulging in such criminal offence would face strict legal action since the lives of passengers and staff are endangered and damage is caused to the public property.
Indian Railways has intensified surveillance measures and increased patrolling in vulnerable sections.

During the period from July to December 2025, a total of 1,698 cases of stone-pelting were registered across the Indian Railways network, railway officials said.
In connection with these cases, at least 665 people have been arrested, they said.
Northern Railway reported the highest number of cases (363), followed by East Central Railway (219), South Central Railway (140), North Central Railway (126), Western Railway (116) and Southern Railway (108).
Other zones also reported incidents, including Central Railway (96), Eastern Railway (71), North Frontier Railway (67), South Western Railway (80), West Central Railway (77), East Coast Railway (50), South Eastern Railway (51), South East Central Railway (51), North Western Railway (55), North Eastern Railway (25) and Konkan Railway (3).
Arrests were made based on such incidents, reflecting sustained enforcement efforts and a zero-tolerance approach towards activities that endanger passenger safety and damage railway property, the officials said.
Indian Railways reiterateed that stone-pelting is a serious criminal offence.
Strict legal action will be taken against those involved, including registration of criminal cases and arrest under relevant provisions of law.
Any individual found indulging in stone pelting or related acts will face severe legal repercussions.
